News! Bidding Round Now Open

The Bolsover North East Derbyshire LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) has been successful in securing additional funding through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).

Following budget cuts in the Comprehensive Spending Review in October 2010 the programme had been unable to support new rural projects.

However, there is now a pot of just over £150,000 that is up for grabs for projects that will create employment in the local area. To qualify, applicants must be within the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire Councils’ area – Dronfield and Gosforth Valley are unfortunately excluded.

Councillor Ken Savidge, Chair of the BNED LEADER LAG said of the award “This is welcome news for the area. We were disappointed in the cut to our budget last year and, whilst this award doesn’t replace all of the cut, it will go a long way to help small businesses and projects in Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.  In order for us to meet our contractual obligations with Defra, priority in this round of funding will be given to projects which create jobs or provide workplace skills development. I would encourage any small business, farming or tourism business in the BNED area that wants to expand and take on more people to talk to the LEADER team as soon as possible to see if they are eligible for a grant.”

The BNED LEADER programme has been running since 2007 and will continue to September 2013. During this time the programme has supported 26 projects which have resulted in over 60 new jobs being created and more than 125,000 visitors attracted to the area. In addition to the £1.69m of grant funding that has been paid, a further £2.33m has been injected into the local economy giving a total investment of over £4m to improve the local area.
